Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly was born on the 16th of July 1990 in Surulere, Lagos. His mother is a Christian while his father is a Muslim and wizkid chose to practice Christianity. He is from a polygamous family of three wives and twelve children of which he happens to be the only male child. Most of his teenage days were spent in Surulere.
Wizkid prioritized his musical career over his education and this was obvious when he dropped out in 2009. After unsuccessful stints in the music industry in his first try, he decided to give education a try. He attended Lead City University dropped out again after just two sessions. This time, he decided to permanently abandon his education and totally concentrates on his music career.
According to Wizkid, he fell in love with music at a very tender age. Also, he said he was inspired by listening to Nigerian veteran musicians like King Sunny Ade, and late Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Wizkid started his musical career at the age of 11 when he released a collaborative album with a group. The group was called Glorious Five and it includes Wizkid and members of his church friends. His stage name used to be “Lil Prinz” before he decided to change it in 2006. he wasn’t known until he was signed by Banky W into Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009. There he released his first song under EME record titled “Holla at your boy”. It was greatly welcomed by music fans and the music video was nominated for Best Afro Pop Video in 2011. Later on, he released songs like Don’t Dull, Love My Baby, oluwa lo ni and pakurumo, they were all part of his album titled “Superstar”.
Wizkid decided to start his own record label in 2013 and his second album titled “Ayo” was released shortly after. The album featured songs like Bombay, jaiye jaiye, on top your matter, and one question. Wizkid has collaborated with a lot of top rated artist both in Nigeria and the world stage. His collaboration with Drake was a global hit and it helped in cementing his reputation as an international musician.
Wizkid is worth over 12 million dollars according to Forbes and he is reported to be the third richest musician in Africa. He owns various mansions and cars. One of his houses is said to be worth over 13 million Naira. His fleets of cars include Hyundai sonata, black Honda Accord, Mercedes-Benz, BMW X6, Bentley, and different versions of Porsche.
