The Nigerian entertainment industry is filled with so many talented acts. Many actors and musicians from the country are well-known all around the globe. Many of these celebrities, especially musicians, sing and even dress in ways that will make you unable to guess what their religions are. In fact, you automatically zero your mind that some of them cannot possibly be Christians or Muslims.

Shina Peller is also a politician, a member of Nigeria’s 9th National Assembly. His father was the well-known magician Professor Moshood Abiola Peller. Born on 14th May 1976, Shina Peller traces his origins to Iseyin, Oyo State.

Olamide Adedeji is a Nigerian musician generally known by his stage name “Olamide”. He is one of the few Nigerian musicians who retain their normal name as their stage name. Olamide is known for using vulgar languages in many of his songs. Hence, it may come as a surprise to you to find out that he is actually Muslim. Some of Olamide’s hit songs include Wo!! (2017), Motigbana (2018), Science Student (2018), Pawon (2019), and Wonma! (2020). He has many other hit songs and is currently one of the biggest musicians in Nigeria.

Olanrewaju Fasasi is popularly known by his stage name “Sound Sultan”. He is a well-known Nigerian singer-songwriter, rapper, and comedian who has been in the industry for quite a long time. With many hit songs to his name, Sound Sultan is regarded as one of the pacesetters of modern hip-hop music in Nigeria. Some of his hit songs include Kokose (2013), Orobo (2013), Natural Something (2013), and Something Like This (2020). Sound Sultan is a Muslim man married to Chichi Morah who now goes by the name Farida. They have three children.

Of course, from his name, you can easily deduce that he is Muslim. However, since most people only know Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf as CDQ, they probably never knew he was Muslim. Some of CDQ’s songs include Olowo (2016), Say-Baba (2017), Flex (2018), and Akwaba (2019).

Nigerian rapper Reminisce’s real name is Remilekun Abdulkhalid Safaru. He is another Nigerian musician that you probably never even suspected was Muslim. He is an award-winning rap artiste known for performing in Yoruba and English. Reminisce was born into a Muslim family, and he practises Islam. Some of his songs include Tesojue (2015), Ibile (2016), Ponmile (2017), Original Gangster (2018), Oja (2019), and Prosperity (2020).

His hit song “Am I A Yahoo Boy” was met with so much controversy. Naira Marley has a fan base known as “Marlians” and it’s safe to say 2019 was his year even as the number of “Marlians” increased dramatically. Naira Marley’s hit songs include Naija Issa Goal (2017), JAPA (2018), PXTA (2019), O Por (2019), Bad Influence (2019), Am I A Yahoo Boy (2019), Instagram (2019), Opotoyi (2019), Soapy (2019), Mafo (2019), Tesumole (2019), and Aye (2020).

Known professionally as JJC Skillz, Abdulrasheed Bello gained recognition in Nigeria after he released his single We Are Africans. He made appearances in Jenifa’s Diary, a TV Show created and produced by his wife, Funke Akindele-Bello. As you can probably guess now, JJC Skillz is a Muslim.

8. Femi Adebayo (Jelili)

Femi Adebayo is a popular Nigerian actor, director, and producer. He has made a name for himself in the Yoruba movie industry, with many hit movies to his name. He is popularly called Jelili by many for a role he played in one of his movies. It is interesting to note that Femi Adebayo studied Law but chose to go into the movie industry instead. He was also appointed as the Special Adviser on Arts, Culture, and Tourism to former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in 2016. Son of veteran Nigerian actor Adebayo Salami, Femi is a Muslim man.

9. Lola Alao

Lola Alao is a popular name and face in the Yoruba movie industry. The popular actress was born into a Muslim home. She was not practising Islam for some time, but converted back to Islam in 2016, shortly after the burial of her father, Lasisi Alao. Upon conversion, Lola Alao adopted the name “Rhodiat”.

10. Adunni Ade

This is probably one of the most surprising and interesting names on this list of popular Nigerian celebrities you never knew were Muslims. Adunni Ade is a Nigerian actress and model who was born in New York, USA. She was born to a Nigerian father and a German-American mother. Many people do not know this, but Adunni Ade was born into a Muslim home and raised as one. However, her mother is a Christian and her father gave his children the free will to choose any religion they like. At a point, she converted to Christianity and went to various Churches. Adunni Ade converted back to Islam on 31st December, 2016. Her oldest son also practises Islam.
