Seun Osewa was born on July 17th, 1982 in Sango Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun state, Nigeria. This young man started learning to program at a very young age. As a result, he grew up to become one of the leading programmers in the country. He was enrolled as an electrical engineering student at the University of Ife in 1998. However, he later dropped out to pursue his career in programming with a great interest in technology and business. He was fully introduced into the world of programming around 1999/2002 but the internet business started around 2003.
Oluwaseun Osewa dived fully into the world programming in 2003 when he started his web hosting internet business. However, the business collapsed after just three months due to lack of adequate finance. Seun wouldn’t let that stop him from achieving his dream, even after securing a regular job. He started to research that took him almost two years. Eventually, he decided to use the Python programming language to create an online web forum. Combining this with his regular job was a difficult task but managed to keep everything under control. With hard work and persistence, Seun managed to open three forums. One of these forums was for higher institution student, one for IT discussions, and the third one for the mobile industry. The Mobile Nigeria forum was launched in 2005, thanks to the assistance of Mr. John Sagai Adams. A few weeks later, the forum had already generated 300 members with Seun still wanting more.
He decided to create another forum for blogging called Nairaland. Unlike the Mobile Nigeria forum which focused only on Telecommunication, Nairaland added that to a list of others. Nairaland covered other topics like politics, jokes, sports, and others. Nairaland gained the attention of Nigerians located both inside and outside the country. With the first plan of making 60,000 naira monthly, Seun made more than he had expected. As a result of containing too much of sexual topics, Google banned Nairaland from their Ad network in 2012. However, this couldn’t stop Nairaland from making millions in a month. In addition, Oluwaseun Osewa was listed among the best African successful entrepreneurs under 30 in 2012.
Oluwaseun Osewa is believed to be worth around $9 million.
