For this post, we are going to be talking about Rotimi Amaechi which has happened to be one of these men. His tenure as the governor of Rivers State is definitely one of the best the state has ever had. The current minister of transport is one of the richest politicians in Nigeria.
Rotimi Amaechi is a native of Ubima Ikwere local government area of Rivers state. He was born on the 27th of May 1965 to elder Fidelis and Mary Amaechi family. He is a top Nigerian politician and the former governor of Rivers state. He used to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party before decamping to All Peoples Party in 2013. Lastly, he is the current Minister of Transportation.
Rotimi Amaechi started his education by attending St Theresa Primary School in 1970. Afterward, he moved on to Government Secondary School in Okolobiri and obtained his WAEC certificate in 1982. Then, he proceeded to the University of Port Harcourt 1987 and obtained his Bachelor`s degree in English Studies and Literature. During his days at the university, he served as the president of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS). He completed his National Youth Service in 1988 and secured a job at Pamo Clinics and Hospitals.
Rotimi Amaechi kicked off his political career as the Secretary to the new defunct National Republican Convention in Rivers state. Afterward, he served as the special assistant to the Deputy Governor of River State, Sir Peter Odili. Peter Odili eventually became his mentor and they started working hand in hand with each other. As a result of the mentorship, Rotimi Amaechi became a member of the board of West Africa Glass industry and Risonpalm Nigeria Limited. Later on, he became the Rivers State Secretary of the Democratic Party caretaker committee of Nigeria in 1996. Then, he was elected as the Chairman of Nigeria`s Conference of Speakers of State Assemblies. He was later re-elected into the state house of assembly in 2003 and also elected as the speaker.

One of his greatest tests came in 2007 when he contested in the Rivers state governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party platform. He won the election and was sworn in on the 26th of October 2007. He was re-elected in 2011 and completed his 8 years in service. His administration was described as one of the best by the people of Rivers state. His term in office was focused on urban development as well as modernizing the transportation sector. Rotimi Amaechi later decamped to the All Progressive Congress and was appointed as the Minister of Transport in 2015.
The former governor of Rivers State is married to Judith Amaechi and their union is blessed with three children.
