Rochas Okorocha is one of the top highly recognized politicians in Nigeria. The former governor of Imo state is a philanthropist and a billionaire. His rise to stardom is truly a story worth telling and at the same time worth hearing.
Rochas Anayo Okorocha was born on the 22nd of September 1962 in Ogboko, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo state. He was born into a poor home and this made his childhood a bit difficult. Unlike most politicians, he had to fight his all the way to the top. He went from hawking groceries in the streets of Jos to becoming the governor of Imo state and a billionaire.
He attended Juladco High School, Jos from 1976 to 1981. Afterward, he got admission into the University of Jos and obtained a diploma in Public Administration between 1990 and 1991. After a while, he returned to the university to get his advanced diploma in Public Administration and he completed that in 1994. Also, he has a Bachelor degree as well as Master degree in Law. Lastly, he has a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of Benue.
As a result of his experiences in his childhood, Rochas Okorocha never wanted any Nigerian to pass through what he passed through. Thus, he dedicated his life to helping and assisting others. As a result, he became so famous that almost everybody wanted to meet him and this really helped him a lot when he moved into politics. He founded the Rochas Okorocha foundation in 1996 and this later led to the birth of Rochas Foundation College in 2001. These two foundations were set up to help all Nigerian students, especially those that cannot afford a basic education. He was once the president of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and he made sure he had an impact on the organization before he left. In 1999, Rochas Okorocha decided to move into politics to extend his help to Nigerians.

To begin with, he served as the Federal Commissioner representing Imo state in the Federal Character Commission. Afterward, he became the chairman of the Youth wing of the Peoples Democratic People in 1999. Then, he contested in the Imo state gubernatorial choice and was reported to have won the election but was not sworn in. According to reports, he was denied his place on the seats due to god-fatherism in the Nigeria politics. Without letting that to discourage him, he contested as a presidential candidate in the 2003 general election under the All Nigerian Peoples Party(ANPP). He lost the election but was appointed as the special adviser to the president. Still not giving up on his dream to become the president, he formed a new party called Action Alliance in 2005. He had the intention of going for the presidential seat under the Action Alliance Party in the 2007 general election. However, he returned to PDP in 2007 and later decamped to All Progressive Grand Alliance before the 2011 general election. He was selected as a candidate for the Imo state governorship election. He won the election and was sworn in on May 29, 2011.
