Pastor E A Adeboye may not be a movie star but he is highly popular in the country. He is the current general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. He never had the ambition of becoming a pastor. All he wanted to do was become and a lecturer and a Vice Chancellor in any top University in the country. However, God had other plans.
Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye was born on the 2nd of March 1942 in Ifewara village, Osun State, Nigeria. His father was a poor farmer who didn’t have much interest in educating his four children. There was no money to do that even if he wanted to educate his kids. Pastor Adeboye was highly interested in receiving a formal education but he was turned down when he approached his father. To show how serious he was with his request, he went on a hunger strike. As all caring and loving father will do, he decided to fund his education by selling a goat. Hence, Adeboye was enrolled in a missionary primary school in his village. Afterward, he was enrolled in Ilesha Grammar School. He fell in love with Mathematics during his days at the school. Upon completing his secondary school education, Adeboye had plans for the higher institution but the Biafra War caused a major setback. However, he still managed to get his Bachelor degree in Mathematics from the University of Nigeria in 1967. Later on, he secured his Master’s degree in Hydrodynamics from the University of Lagos in 1969. In addition, he completed his Doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos in 1975.

Pastor Adeboye took over the leadership of the church after the death of Pastor Akindayomi in 1981. This was as a strict direction given by Pastor Akindayomi before his death.
