Popularly regarded as one of the most powerful men in Nigeria, former president Olusegun Obasanjo is a very famous figure in the country. In addition, he is highly recognized both locally and internationally.
Olusegun Obasanjo Mathew Okikilola Aremu was born on the 13th of May 1937. He is an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. His father`s name is Amos Adigun Obasanjo Bankole while his mother`s name is Ashabi. His mother passed away in 1958 and his father died in 1959. Olusegun Obasanjo became an orphan at the age of 22 but that wouldn’t stop him from achieving his dreams. He served in the military and was once the head of state of the country. Later on, he became the first elected president of the country. Obasanjo is married to four wives but he lost three of them and later divorce the first wife.
He enrolled into saint David Ebenezer School at Ibogun for his primary school education in 1948. Then, he attended Baptist Boys High School (BBHS), Abeokuta within 1952 and 1957 for his secondary school certificate. He joined the Nigeria Army in 1958 then went abroad for his studies and training. Obasanjo defended his Ph.D. thesis at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in December 2017 thus making him a Ph.D. holder in Theology.

After joining the army in 1958, he was sent to England just like all other Military officers for appropriate training. Some of his training destinations include

Then, he went on to serve in the 5th battalion of the Nigeria Army in Kaduna and as well as in Cameroon between 1958 and 1959. He was later commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army in 1959 and became a Lieutenant in 1960. Consequently, he served in the United Nations Force in Congo as a Nigerian contingent. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 1963 and was posted to Indian Army Engineering School, at Kirkee, India in 1965. Olusegun Obasanjo was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant colonel in 1967. During this period, he was appointed as the commander Second Area command of the Nigerian Army.
Afterward, he was made the Commander, Garrison, Ibadan, Nigeria, between 1967 and 1969. He was made the commander of the Third Marine Commando Division, South-Eastern State, during the Nigerian Biafran Civil War. Later on, he was made the chief of staff supreme headquarters by the chief of staff supreme headquarters in 1975. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in January 1976 and eventually became the Head of State. However, he resigned as the head of state and from the army on the 1st of October 1979. Furthermore, he was elected as the President of Nigeria on May 29, 1999, and served for 8 years.
