How to start zoo business in Nigeria will be discussed in this article.

How To Start Zoo Business In Nigeria

1. Develop a business plan for a zoo

To start your zoo project, you need to develop a business plan for it. How big will your zoo be? Are you going to run the zoo as a sole proprietorship business or as a partnership? Where do you wish to locate your zoo? What is the report of the feasibility study you conducted about the viability of the business in Nigeria?

How much expanse of land do you need? Do you have personnel with expertise in running a zoo? How many animals can you accommodate? What kinds of animals or wildlife do you intend to raise? How will you get the animals? What plans do you have for their feeding? You must understand that a zoo business is not like any other kind of business, hence the necessity of the questions.

2. Get A license

You will need to apply for a licence to operate a zoo to start and make sure the premises are compliant to any and all laws. Zoos are subject to regular inspections by the local authority, which has the power to issue hefty fines or even close you down if standards aren’t maintained.

3. Obtain a suitable location

After your plan, acquire a location that is suitable for a zoo business. Your land should be expansive enough to allow the animals room to roam. The vegetation should encourage the survival of the animals. If you can get a location that has a little stream running through it, it would be better. The zoo should also be in a remote and interior but accessible place.

4. Set up the facilities

Now that you have acquired land, you need to start putting things in place. Build the necessary facilities and obtain the needed equipment. The types of facilities should be determined by your location, the categories of animals you intend raising, the topography and general nature of the environment. Your land should also be well fenced. You equally need to obtain a license from the government to operate a zoo.

5. Acquire The Animals

Owning animals can be tricky business, especially if you’re looking to house exotic wildlife. Animals are either bred in captivity or traded between zoos, so getting animals into your zoo won’t cost you anything. However, caring for them in the form of providing food, shelter and medical care are all expensive. You may need to have veterinary staff on-site around the clock.

6. Hire Caretakers

You’ll only need to do this if you plan to hire employees to help you operate your zoo. But, you’ll likely need at least a few employees to help care of the animals. You’ll also need to set ticket or entrance prices and, of course, you must advertise your zoo.

Once you’ve established your zoo, or at least set up a plan to do so, determine what you’ll charge customers and get the word out. Do all of these things, and you may soon be opening a zoo and showcasing your well-cared-for animals to customers eager to see the animals or even intermingle with and pet them
