It is difficult and almost impossible to live on allowances in the university if one is not from a wealthy home. Waiting to get a job after graduation is among the many ways students set themselves up for failure. There are already millions of graduates in the unemployment pool. And many of them have better qualifications than you do, how do you then topple them in a job hunt.

Working while being a student is among the best things you can do for yourself. It makes you live a comfortable life in school and at the same time sets you up for the future. As a student, there is no doubt that your number one priority should be your studies. So any job you are going to be doing must not be time-consuming nor affect your studies in any way. Here are some ways in which you can make money as a student in Nigeria.

Administration Centers

Students and staff do a lot of printing every day. All you need to start this business is to get any cheap DeskJet printing machines whose inks can be easily changed without changing the whole cartridge completely. Also get a monitor, keyboard, UPS. Get a license from your school governing body and you are in business.

Tutorial classes

If you are good in any particular subject or course, you can start a tutorial class targeting your junior colleagues, probably first-year students in your department or faculty depending on the course. Classes can hold on weekends or after normal classes. Your charge can be per class, per month or per course depending on what works best for you. You can also solve past questions a week before an exam and sell it to students.

Freelancing jobs

This is one of the easiest ways of making money whenever you are free from academic work and it is open to everybody including secondary school students provided you meet the requirements. You can register online with any of the freelance platforms and your working hours. Some of the online freelancing jobs include typing services, graphic designing etc.

Most students in university love to take photographs especially during events like convocation and matriculation. And there is also a constant demand for passport photographs during registrations. The business is highly profitable and you all need is a digital camera.

Using your talent(s)

This is less talked about but is one of the surest ways to live a fulfilled undergraduate life. Only a few people are gifted at academics, the other people have special skills and talents that should be honed and then showcased. If you dance, sing, act, compere, tell jokes, write, you should exploit the skill. What nobody will tell you is that the best time to hone your skill is in the university. It will make you a good living and you will be fulfilled all through.

Ushering jobs or Catering business

Saturdays are mostly for events in Nigeria. You can engage in catering jobs whenever you are free on weekends. You can also get yourself in ushering jobs. If it is not in the school then it is outside the school. You don’t actually need a capital to start this business, all you need to do is look smart and work as a team.
