Davido is arguably one of the biggest artists in Nigeria. He is currently enjoying life at the top of the Nigerian music industry. Let`s take you through his life and success story.


David Adedeji Adeleke was born on the 21st of November 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father, Dr. Deji Adeleke is a billionaire business mogul while his mother Mrs. Vero Adedeji is a lecturer in a university in the United States. His mother passed away in 2003. Davido attended the British International School in Lagos for his secondary education and studied Business Administration at Oakwood University, Alabama, USA.

During his days in the University, Davido shared his dormitory room with another African student from Rwanda. According to him, he was surprised to meet another African student in his room. One of his neighbors was an American who happens to have a full music studio in his room. Later on, they met and Davido told him of his dream of becoming a music producer.

Davido’s interest in music started growing while he was studying at the University. So, he decided to buy musical instruments for himself and began making beats as well as recording vocal references. He also learned how to produce and became a professional. After a series of poor performances in his studies, he decided to drop out of school.

Davido came back to Nigeria in 2011 and he decided to go back to school, thus enrolling at Babcock University in Ogun State, Nigeria to study Music. Most people still believe that he went back to school as a result of pressure from his parent. Davido’s first ever single dropped that same year when he featured Naeto C, in a single, titled “BACK WHEN”. The song received a lot of positive feedback from music lovers and after some time, the video came out. Davido followed it up with a single titled “Dami Duro” in 2011 which became a hit. He later released his first studio Album titled “OMO BABA OLOWO” which included massive songs like “ALL OF YOU”, “EKURO”, “GBON GBON”, and “OVERSEAS” featuring Sina Rambo.

His love life is another kettle of fish but to keep it short, he has two daughters from two different baby mamas. He is currently dating a chef named Chioma.

Net worth

It was reported that Davido had signed a #30 million endorsement deal with MTN on the 6th of April 2012. The deal made him the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign for all Nigerian youths. The second album Davido started working on was “The Baddest” and in early 2013, Davido released “Gobe” as the album lead single. The song ranked as the second-best on Top 10 songs of 2013 of Premium Times list. The album was finally released on May 13, 2013, and it featured songs like “Skelewu” and “One of a kind”. Above all, Skelewu was the best song in the album. It was in the 5th place in the TOP 10 songs of 2013. Also, the song hit Afribiz’s Top 100 chart and managed to be on the 1st place for a few weeks.

Davido is now an internationally recognized and was presented with the BET Awards for the Best International Act. In addition, he has worked with a lot of artists both at home and abroad. Artists Such as Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince, Sarkodie,  Mafikizolo, R2bees, Diamond Platinum, Tinashe, Meek Mill, Young Thug, and Rae-Sraemmurd. He has bagged some international like the MOBO Award, the MAMA Award, and the KORA Award.
